Jennifer Pudenz
Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer Pudenz, and I'm an avid bowhunter from Winterset, Iowa (Bridges of Madison County and John Wayne). My life revolves around archery, and I feel so lucky to be a hunter from Iowa- especially southern Iowa! I work from home as editor of The Iowa Sportsman and Family Fish and Game magazines. I've grown up around hunting, fishing and the outdoors my whole life, thanks to my dad and my brother. I've been shooting a bow since I was 4 years old, and today, I love deer hunting, turkey hunting, bowfishing and shooting at 3-D tournaments! My husband and I also enjoy managing our trail cameras as well as searching for sheds, mushrooms and asparagus! Good luck out in the field and on the water!
Nick Johnson
I was raised in north central Iowa in the town of Fort Dodge. Growing up I hunted upland game with family and friends and did not adopt the obsession for waterfowl hunting until high school. I was invited to join an early season hunt for teal back when I was a sophomore, which is where I got my feet wet, no pun intended to duck hunting. We really had a good shoot and this sparked my interest for the sport. The passion began here and I quickly developed my skills in the sport of waterfowling. Waterfowling to me became addicting, much like bow hunting is to those who love deer. I fully immersed myself in the sport and try to gather as much knowledge as possible as the seasons pass.
A bonus for me that came about later in my hunting career was being asked to join the prostaff for Hardcore Decoys. This has given me great opportunities to meet people and has helped paved the road for me in my hunting career. I am also an avid videographer and love to film hunts when I am not behind the gun. Conservation has always been important to me, and I try to be an advocate for successful land management and wetland restoration. This has driven me to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Iowa State University. I am currently employed with The Iowa Sportsman magazine as their video coordinator and production manager.
Patrick McKinney
My name is Patrick McKinney, and I was born and raised in Iowa (Fort Dodge) and have been hunting this great state's lands for the past 20 years. I enjoy hunting whitetail deer, turkeys and pheasants. I love watching my spoiled Vizsla, Hunter, hunt birds. Other hobbies include, fishing, watching sports on TV, hanging out with friends and family, archery and pretty much anything else to do with hunting. Good luck this fall!
Aaron McKinney
My name is Aaron McKinney, and I am from Fort Dodge, Iowa. I love archery and hunting for deer and turkey the most, but also enjoy pheasant hunting and fishing. Bernie Barringer
Bernie began bowhunting in 1973 as a 14-year-old. This became a lifelong addiction. For more than 35 years, he has pursued small game, whitetails and bears across the Midwest, but he is expanding his experiences to include other species in other parts of North America.
After a few years in the 1980’s as a professional fur trapper, Bernie has worked as an outdoor writer in fishing and hunting, plus in promotions and marketing in the fishing business for more than 20 years. He has written more than 300 magazine feature articles and nine books. The Bowhunting Road web log is a response to the request of people who are fascinated by his passion for bowhunting and his ability to tell a story in a compelling way. Bernie is “living the dream” as he chases game with stick and string each year.
Maria Tussing
Maria Tussing is a freelance writer from western South Dakota and contributor to Family Fish & Game magazine. She grew up on a ranch in western Nebraska, learning the value of time outdoors for both mental and physical health. She loves sharing that lesson with her three young children. They enjoy geocaching, hiking, biking, camping, fishing and about anything else that can be done outdoors!
Jake Gehrke
My name is Jake Gehrke, and my wife Becky and I are both teachers in southwestern Wisconsin. I love teaching the outdoors to our two sons, Ryther and Bennett. I am a novice writer and write a few outdoor articles in my free time. I enjoy hunting a variety of species including whitetail deer, turkeys, waterfowl and small game. Although it's nice to have a hunt alone every once in a while, sharing these experiences with my family and friends is what I enjoy the most and is why Family Fish and Game caught my eye and drew me in.
Tim Ackarman
Tim Ackarman is a freelance writer and photographer from North Iowa. He is a regular contributor to Family Fish and Game and The Iowa Sportsman as well as the Mason City Globe Gazette. His articles and photos have also appeared in several other magazines and newspapers. Although his favorite topics are hunting, conservation, outdoor education and dog training, he has written about everything from agriculture to politics.
Ackarman primarily enjoys hunting upland game and waterfowl in the company of his Labs. He also likes hunting deer and turkey with a shotgun as well as fishing, mainly for walleye and yellow bass on Clear Lake (IA). A "genuine" Iowa farm boy, he lives on an acreage not far from where he grew up, sharing it with his wife, Lynne, and a herd of cats as well as those Labs. After faith, family, the outdoors and writing/photography, his next greatest passion is Green Bay Packers football.
Darren Haverstick
I grew up hunting and fishing in a part of the Ozarks where time has stood still and know of no other way of life. My passion is traditional archery, but I have recently been bitten by the traditional muzzleloading bug and have found it to be taking up a lot of my time. This new "hobby" has also lead me to take up hand sewing leather goods for myself and friends.
I started freelance writing a few years ago for outdoor magazines and that's how I became acquainted with Family Fish and Game. I truly believe in their mission and am proud to be a part of their publication.
I currently live near Fair Grove, MO with my wife and daughter and work as a software developer and system administrator for the Paul Mueller Company in Springfield, MO.
Matt Pudenz
Hello, my name is Matt Pudenz. I am from Carroll in the western part of Iowa, but currently living in Winterset, Iowa with my wife and her family. Love to hunt anything at anytime as long as it's open season! Hunting whitetail takes up most of my time though. From scouting and practicing in the summer, hunting in the fall and winter, to shed hunting in the spring. It's mainly all about the whitetail. I hunt whitetail seasons for bow, 2nd shotgun and late muzzleloader. The best of the best is being out there with family and friends. Good Luck with all your hunts!
Vikki Trout
Vikki Trout is a full-time outdoor writer and photographer from Southern Illinois. Her work has been featured in many publications. Ron Hicks
Hello fellow hunters and outdoorsmen and women! My name is Ron Hicks and I’m an ADDICT to the hunt! I have a passion that only people like us can understand. I grew up my whole life with the passion of hunting. My father passed it on to me the same way his father did to him. Growing up in California made it a little harder to hunt so I did most of it in other states. This gave me the opportunity to hunt many types of wild game from Whitetail, Mule Deer, Caribou, Geese, Pheasant, Ducks, Sand Hill Crane and small game. I have placed some fine trophies on the walls of my home and look forward to placing many more. However, my true passion is to hunt the allusive white-tailed deer and capture it all on film when the opportunity presents it's self. I am on the Pro Staff for Foxy Outdoors. I now live in Missouri where I pursue the love of the outdoors. I am married to a wonderful and understanding woman named Katie and have two wonderful little boys. A 6-year-old (future bowhunter) named Hunter and 3-year-old named Tyler.
I'm looking forward to increasing the number of members in our great state of Missouri. If there is ever a member of this website that has any questions or needs help with the site, please contact me and I will do my best to answer any questions or help in any way. If I don't have the answer we'll find it together. I look forward to hearing from you... Enjoy what God has given us and Protect it so our children can experience it.
Brandon Wetzel
Hello everyone my name is Brandon Wetzel. I am from Halifax, a small town located in Central Pennsylvania. My dad introduced me into hunting at a young age and I have enjoyed it ever since. My main love for hunting is Whitetail Deer. I am an avid bow hunter and hunt just about everyday of the season. When I am not deer hunting I also enjoy turkey hunting as well as fishing for trout and bass. My main enjoyment is archery hunting, so that’s where you can find me most of the time. I have killed 9 deer since I was 12, 6 with my Hoyt and 3 with my 30-30. Although I have yet to shoot a buck I still put in the time each season, and I know someday I will be rewarded. That’s about all for me, I hope to talk with all of you very soon and talk about the great sport that we all enjoy, hunting. Take care and PM or leave me a comment if you ever want to talk. That’s what we are all here for. Good luck with all of your hunting adventures. Remember to always take a young one out hunting because they are our future in this great sport!
